Leverage lets you pay a little now and get a lot of yield exposure, but only inside a window you choose. Why use it: you think yields will be high for a while, for example during a boosted-rate campaign or a stretch of high borrowing demand. Leverage gives you a lot of that yield, for just those weeks.
Leverage with Moment: 100 paid from Now to infinity in red, and a tall green block of exposure from Now to Nov 2

Red is what you pay, from Now to ∞. Green is the exposure you get, only inside your window.

The idea

Holding the coin gives you its yield, 1× on every day. Leverage moves that around:
  • You pay a flat amount from Now to ∞.
  • You get a much bigger amount, but only from Start to Until.
If the vault earns more than the rate you paid (5.35% a year here) during your window, you profit. If it earns less, you lose some or all of what you paid.
The exposure is not money you can withdraw. In the example, your line shows about 19,593 more until Nov 2. That amount only earns yield for you, then it ends. What you can withdraw at face value is the lowest point of your line from Now on.

Paying with Moment or Tokens

Example with Moment: pay 100 USDS, Until Nov 2. The pills read +0.02 (synced yield), −100.00 (you pay), +19,592.66 (your exposure).
Leverage after the trade: the TimeBalance is much higher until Nov 2 and a little lower after, with the old level dashed

After the trade: a lot more until Nov 2, a little less after.

Leverage paid with sUSDS: the shares leave the wallet, no red on the TimeBalance, green exposure only from Now to Nov 2

Paying with sUSDS: no red. Your line keeps everything and gains a lot, but only until Nov 2.

Leverage with sUSDS after the trade: the TimeBalance is much higher until Nov 2 and unchanged after

After the trade: until Nov 2, your line holds a lot more.

Steps in the form

  1. Open a market and pick the Leverage tab.
  2. Pick Moment or Tokens, and enter what you pay. Tap 25 / 50 / 75 / Max if you like.
  3. In You get exposure to, pick the end date, for example Until Nov 2 · 35 days. The multiplier shows next to it, for example 195.9×.
  4. The box below shows your exposure, for example ≈ 19,592.66 USDS.
  5. Review → Confirm, then sign in your wallet.
There is no limit switch on Leverage. To lever at your own rate, place a Limit bid.

Choosing the window on the chart

The window has two handles on the chart:
  • ‹ Until … ›: where the window ends. You can also pick it in the form.
  • ‹ Start … ›: where it begins. It starts at Now. Drag it, or use its arrows, to start later.

Details

Tap the badge (for example 195.9× LEVERAGE) to open Details: Details also states the break-even (“yield must average above 5.35%”) and the most you can lose (what you paid).

Leverage or just hold?

Leverage is prepaid. There is no margin, no funding payment and no liquidation. Nothing can close it for you. You pay 100 and get the yield of about 19,593 until Nov 2 (35 days). Compare that with keeping the 100: Every 1% the vault averages above 5.35% adds about 18.7 (19,493 × 1% × 35 ÷ 365; the other 100 is your own coin, which earns the same either way). Every 1% below takes about 18.7 away, down to −100 at most. “The vault averages” means the yield you actually get, after Moment’s 5% performance fee. It is measured from the vault itself; there is no outside price feed.
After a drop, a window can earn 0. If the vault’s price falls, yield only counts again once the price is back above the market’s previous high. A window that falls in that time earns nothing.
Any vault extras, such as points, belong to whoever holds the position. Like yield, they are subject to Moment’s 5% performance fee; points are tracked off-chain, so the fee is taken off-chain when they are distributed.
Leverage can lose everything you pay for it. Only pay what you are fine losing.

Starting later

Drag Start to a later date and the exposure begins there. You still pay from Now. Until Start, your payment grows at a fixed rate (“The fixed part grows your payment until …” in Details), so the window costs less.
Leverage with a later Start: 100 paid from Now to infinity in red, green exposure only from Oct 17 to Dec 2

A later Start: you pay from Now, the green begins at Start.

Closing early

You can close any time with Close. It is priced at the market rates of that moment. See also Risks and security.
